Fireworks – Types

fireworks show is something that is designed to amuse you and raise your spirits. Irrespective of their age, people would be able to appreciate fireworks in all their glory. It is surprising how fireworks cater to everybody’s tastes and come in a huge variety of shapes, colors and designs. It is not necessary that fireworks should be used only by professionals – there are quite a lot of designs that allow individuals to easily set it off. They are used for public shows - for holidays like Christmas crackers and as wedding crackers. There are different kinds of crackers that are classified based on their availability to people.

Individual fireworks are the most common types of fire crackers and they vary from indoor fireworks to aerial fireworks. They are available for purchase by individuals because of the perception that the degree of danger associated with them is less. Usually, sparklersRoman candles, bottle rockets and smaller fireworks fall under this category. A simple and modest show can be obtained with the help of these fireworks.

There are certain fireworks such as commercial fireworks and have to be used only by professionals. It is not legal for individuals to buy and use them; in most cases, they are also too expensive to be afforded by common people. Most places in Europe and the United Kingdom have strict regulations against common people buying them because of the firepower they carry. They are essentially created by companies with the intention of providing a large fireworks show during holidays and festivals. They include almost all of the aerial fireworks which produce distinct large patterns in the sky.

Commercial fireworks are not always aerial fireworks, though most types are. There are some specific varieties that perform at ground level too. The themes that define them are many – starting from simple burst patterns to complicated weeping willow and drooping patterns, there are a plethora of patterns that are associated with commercial grade fireworks.

It is not always easy to host a fireworks show because of the complexity involved in hosting one, and also the regulations and laws governing the use of fireworks need to be thoroughly analyzed. The reason most governments have stringent laws defining the sale and use of fireworks is because of the tremendous potency of the constituents of these cheap fireworks, which can be used for destructive purposes if they fall into the wrong hands.

Fireworks – Following the rules

Fireworks have entertained people for centuries, capturing the hearts of millions with brilliant lights and creative designs that illuminate the sky. Humans have always been attracted by noise and light, and against a night sky, fireworks that weave into each other tend to add to all the excitement of any occasion. For many years, to be able to appreciate these eye catching designs and colours, you would have had to call in a professional. But in this day and age, you can buy many types and designs similar to the ones used by professionals.

Position of the UK Government

The UK government has strict laws connected to the usage of fireworks. One of the most important is the legal age to buy them, which is currently eighteen years old. This minimum age requirement also applies to carrying them in public. The government has four legal categories of fireworks, where one category has been deemed illegal for purchase by the general public.

Category 1 primarily includes indoor fireworks which can be used in a small area. Category 2 consists of fireworks that can be viewed safely from 5 metres and must not scatter debris beyond 3 metres.  Category 3 mainly consists of display items, which can be viewed safely from 25 metres and cannot have debris fall beyond 50 metres. Fireworks under these categories can be purchased by legal means. Category 4 covers professional items, which cannot be purchased legally by the general public. In addition, you cannot buy fireworks that produce sound beyond 120 dBA at 15 meters.

When using fireworks, the other legal conditions include a restriction on the time you can ignite them. On many days, you cannot use fireworks between 11 at night and 7 in the morning. While on the Georgian and Chinese New Year, and Diwali, it is legal to conduct firework displays until 1 in the morning.

You can buy fireworks all year round at licensed shops, but three days before and on the Chinese New Year and Diwali, between 15 October to 10 November and from 26th to 31st December, you can legally buy them from your local supermarket, and general retail outlets.
